The 2003 sale at A+ Angus Ranch continued the strong tradition established in 2002 with Lot 2, a New Design 036 daughter of the $40,000 record-setting Blackcap in 2002 topping the day at $25,000 when she sold to the new Angus breeder, Greenleaf Farm in Georgia. Second high-seller and top-selling heifer calf at $20,000 was Lot 5B, a buyers choice Twin Valley Precision E161 daughter of the record-setting foundation A+ Blackcap selected by Center Ranch in Texas. Second high-selling cow at $7500 to MJB Ranch was Lot 4, a Tehama Bando 155 daughter of the foundation A+ Blackcap whose four direct daughters in the sale commanded an average price of $14,500 with the direct descendants of her compiling total sales of $90,600.
Top-selling yearling heifer of the event at $18,000 was Lot 22, a daughter of New Design 036 produced by a maternal sister to the $250,000 Gardiner 2003 record-setting female. This top prospect sold to DeBusk Angus in Virginia who also purchased Lot 3, the $5,500 third high-selling cow from the Blackcap family and Lot 2C, the $5,000 second high-selling heifer calf pregnancy from the $25,000 top-selling cow of the day.
JACs Ranch from Arkansas made Lot 6A, a granddaughter of the foundation A+ Blackcap, the $16,000 second high-selling spring yearling heifer with Kelvin Birk from Missouri selecting Lot 1, another granddaughter of the $40,000 record-setter, as the $5,500 third high-selling spring yearling. Birk also chose Lot 12, one of the oldest daughters of G A R Pinnacle, as the $6,000 top-selling pair.
MJB Ranch chose Lot 16, one of the oldest daughters of G A R Grid Maker, as the $7,000 top-selling bred heifer, also purchasing the Grid Maker daughter featured in Lot 10 as the second high-selling bred heifer.
Three Trees Ranch in Georgia purchased the $6,000 top-selling frozen embryo package from Lot 19, the foundation A+ Rita whose maternal sister was the $100,000 top-selling cow at Gardiner Angus Ranch in 2002. The $6,000 top-selling heifer calf pregnancy chosen by Center Ranch was produced from the mating of that same impressive donor to G A R Precision 1680.
The 65 lots offered at A+ Angus Ranch sold for $243,350 for an average of $3,744 with a total of 83 individual sales recording an average of $2,932 to make this one of the top sales in the State of Texas for the second year in a row. Dick Beck, Marketing Agent, conducted the sale and Col. Stanley Stout served as the auctioneer.
Benefiting Tarleton State University (TSU) Livestock Judging Team, coached by Randy Harp, was a semen auction held at the conclusion of the sale. All proceeds raised were donated directly to the TSU team who assisted with the sale.
